TERRA FLOW is a series of paintings on plaster. Each painting is intended to work as an individual element or in dialogue with others, creating a larger system. The piece as a whole represents the fragile connections we have with each other in the face of our rapidly changing world. Using rare maps from the Boston Public Library collection and roots gleaned from across the New England region, the pieces create a contemporary landscape. The pieces explores the matrix of the natural world and the man-made environment where boundaries blur between underlying natural systems -- sap flowing through trees, rivers finding low ground -- and the expression of human organization. Branching root structures connect to the mapped world and to the interactions of life which keep us and our environment, built and unbuilt, seen and unseen, in a constant state of flow.
